European Region of Gastronomy 2017: Aarhus
This year, Aarhus and Central Denmark not only are hosting the European Capital of Culture but also the European Region of Gastronomy. That is quite an accomplishment! But what is this region of gastronomy about?
The aim of the European Region of Gastronomy is to showcase the diverse European food cultures while promoting innovation, sustainability and better health. For Denmark, this means arranging several events and activities centred around the tradition of Danish cuisine but with a twist as one of the purposes of this event is about innovation in conjunction with the theme “Rethink” from the European Capital of Culture.
These are some of the upcoming events:
Get inspiration and knowledge about the Nordic food culture while participating in engaging activities and workshops such as sausage-making, seaweed safaris and gourmet picnics. The festival will be held at Tandkrogen from the 1st to the 3rd of September.
Danish Championship in Hot-Dogs
Held at the last day of the Food Festival, popular Danish chefs prepare their own interpretations of the classic hot-dog in order to win in any of the two categories participating: traditional or modern. Their creations are sold to the visitors and the earnings go to a charity. This event is held on the 4th of September from 11:00 to 17:00.
Witness a competition between local and regional restaurants to get the prize for the best dish made with local ingredients. This event will take place on the 3rd of September from 10:00 to 11:30. Prices for students go from 60 to 90 DKK.
